ACCEPTANCE TESTING OF THE IN-CORE MONITORING SYSTEM FOR SOUTH UKRAINIAN NPP WAS CARRIED OUT

In January 2024, at the SRPA ”Impulse” test site, acceptance successfully tests of a complex of hardware and upper-level software of a modified in-core monitoring system for power unit No. 1 of the South Ukrainian NPP (UL SVRK-M2).

UL SVRK-M2 provides:

  • Control of mixed loads with fuel of any suppliers and fuel assemblies with different fuel column heights;
  • Fuel profiling in both axial and radial terms;
  • Possibility of direct control of linear energy release at the level of fuel elements;
  • Possibility of direct control of linear energy release at the level of fuel elements;
  • Information support for the operator in power maneuvering modes.

UL SVRK-M2 performs diversification of the calculation of the neutron-physical parameters of the core using two software systems: "Beacon-TSM" (Westinghouse) and the national calculation complex "ImCore" (SRPA ”Impulse”). Software that implements the calculation of the thermohydraulic parameters of the reactor plant and all other functions, and equipment of the upper level - SRPA ”Impulse” production.

Based on the results of the work, the acceptance committee, consisting of representatives of the South Ukrainian NPP, State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine and SRPA “Impulse”, concluded that UL SVRK-M2 fully complies with the requirements of technical specifications, norms, rules and standards for nuclear and radiation safety, including the requirement for cyber protection, and is ready for delivery to the South Ukrainian NPP.

SRPA “Impulse” is a leading Ukrainian designer, manufacturer, and supplier of highly-reliable instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power engineering and railways.
